March 2001 - First Day in Cairo

Walking and sailing around

Egypt Air - Horus, a god in the form of a falcon whose eyes were the sun and the moon. Our feluccas. Feluccas have supposedly cruised the Nile since ancient times. This one may have.
Duncan and Tote discussing lanteen rigging and whether a felucca would make a satisfactory pirate ship On the Nile Posing Maggie helping the captain
The "boom" is drawn up to furl the sail, rather than hoisting the whole thing In downtown Cairo, the river is lined with fancy hotels Portrait Maggie imagining herself in command
Tote, barely awake A bunch of feluccas at the dock Flowers The view from our window. On the top of many buildings are incredible collections of rubble. On the tops of others are living places - sometimes part of the building and sometimes constructed on the roof. We saw kids riding bikes ten stories up and women tending chickens.
