Since Sofia has been around for a long time, any time excavation goes much below street level, Roman ruins are uncovered. These ruins are preserved all over the place -- in metro stations, etc. One hotel has it's lobby cocktail bar on the lower level in the middle of the ruins of a Roman theater.
