The Busan International Film Festival is
underway and there is a national holiday of some sort, so
finding hotel space wasn't easy. We landed for one night
at Toyoko Inn, a Japanese budget hotel chain. This is the
breakfast room where people from everywhere are eating two kinds
of kimchee, rice, raw cabbage, shrimp cakes, tiny tasteless hot
dogs, banana halves, and toast. No chatting.
The hotel is run efficiently but according to strict rules that
make it an odd place to stay. For example, no one was
allowed to check in until 4PM except those with Toyoko Inn
membership cards.
