February 2001 - The Vatican (again)

The Vatican Museum and a climb up St. Peter's Dome

View of the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, Pope's apartments, St. Peter's Square, and the front of St. Peter's from St. Peter's Dome. Straight out of the Square runs Via Reconciliation. On the left near the end of the Via is the Castel with the Bridge of Angels in front of it.

The papacy, in turn, recognized the kingdom of Italy. Concurrently, a concordat established the validity of church marriage in Italy, provided compulsory religious instruction for Catholic schoolchildren, and declared Roman Catholicism to be Italy's exclusive religion.
