This little thatch-roofed pavilion and rice
field are in a clearing with a stream and tiny waterfall..
Some water is diverted through a slender channel and used to
play a drinking game. If one did not compose a poem by the
time one's cup came around in the little channel, one lost and
couldn't take a drink. (Or something like that.)
A royal party centered around extemporaneous creation of poetry
and drinking sounds to me like many of the scenes in Tales of
Genji.
