Korea still has the remnants of a royal
family. The direct line had the good grace not to produce
a male heir.
Nakseon Hall was the last palace building occupied by a member
of the royal family. Several members of the royal family
lived here after they were allowed to return to Korea in the
1960s, through the 1990s.
The story of several of the last generation would make a great
movie or novel: madness, art, forced marriages, marriage for
love, generational clashes -- it's all part of their
story. Perhaps the most tragic story is that of Yi Banga,
who died in Nakeseon Hall.
