The area in front of City Hall is the site
of a memorial for the victims of the ferry disaster last year,
when ~300 victims drowned . . . many were high school students
going on holiday. So there are thousands of yellow ribbons
with prayers and memories inscribed on them, all tied to poles,
quietly flapping and shimmering in the sunshine. -- Monica
