An altar of flowers in the public space
before City Hall dedicated to the Sewol Ferry disaster.
The top band contains photos of the victims -- about 300 people,
most of them students.
There are several fellows like the one on the right who stand
patiently at a table in the sun, apparently to let people take a
flower and place it on the altar.
The ferry was overloaded, and protesters allege that corrupt
officials ignored that fact. Adding to the outrage, the
Korean Coast Guard arrived at the scene late -- most of the
survivors were rescued by private vessels. More
about the ferry.
